‘Who carries the bag?’
The ‘Black Calendar Bag’ is a visual and conceptual discussion regarding a carrier bag used throughout the informal commercial scene of Luanda. It is used mostly by the underpriviledged, that carry in real life the weight of global values for which simbolic representations are printed on the bag.
‘Statue of Locality’ vs Statue of Liberty
The duality of the statues suggest a break from the conditioned visual colonization and rather the celebration of not yet globalized people, traditions and local values. The process of dissecting the symbols on the bag - ‘Series of six isolated instructions’ in the bottom of the page, provided being key for critical analisis of the potential function of each element, adding to the understanding of how to dismantle such imposed ‘instructions’.
